Eli comes from a dead planet so he has never seen plantation or wild life, he has never felt the chill of snow, the pattering of rain or the soft caress of sunshine. There is no beauty where he comes from. He lives in a society that deems the human body weak and useless, meaning they actually idolise machines because of the robot’s capability to go beyond the human body limitation. Eli does not see it as an improvement, but he sees it as a horrible loss of the natural human body.
So, when he finally feels the fingertips of rain fall down on him he is overwhelmed and brought to tears...
